Pelosi won’t block funds for surge – DU feels betrayed

Why was this announcement an ABC/Diane Sawyer exclusive? Was she afraid to announce this among her peers?

Exclusive: Pelosi Won’t Block Funding to Stop Iraq Troop Surge, Even Though Situation Is a ‘Tragedy’

Nancy Pelosi Tells ABC News’ Diane Sawyer Bush “Has to Answer for This War”

Jan. 19, 2007 — There may be a growing battle between Congress and the president over the Iraq War strategy, but new House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she won’t block funding for additional troops.

Pelosi’s position, revealed in an exclusive interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer, came days after a group of senators announced a bipartisan resolution condemning the Bush administration’s plan to increase U.S. forces in Iraq by more than 20,000 troops.

While the Senate resolution would be non-binding, it would send a message to the president, and at least a dozen Republican senators have already offered their support.

In an interview with Sawyer, Pelosi said Democrats in Congress would not be held responsible for putting the soldiers in the troop surge in additional harm’s way by blocking funds, but also called the situation in Iraq a “tragedy” and a “stark blunder.”

I did a little DUmpster diving (Democratic Underground) and it seems that the DUers are feeling unraveled and a bit betrayed by Ms. Pelosi and her party:

Its called “Being betrayed by your Democratic Leadership”…

And thats exactly what is happening. The people voted Democratic because that seemed the only way to express disapproval of the course the country is on.It was the only alternative available. It will do no good because, just like the Republicans, the Dems represent the interests of big business/finance that want this war. These people, these CORPORATE DEMOCRATS,serve the interests of big business.Lieberman,Clinton,Pelosi are of the same ilk. They do not, they will not serve the interests of the people, they do not respond to or respect the will of the people.Maybe Obama…maybe Obama…

So it seems that Barack Obama is the new savior of the Democrat party. Maybe Obama indeed…

I urge you to take a look at Michelle Malkin’s Baghdad Photo Album!

Head on over to Michelle Malkin’s blog and check out her photos from Iraq. They’re fantastic.

Update: I liked this perspective from Riehl World View:

Differing Views On Iraq

Hillary goes to Iraq and comes back proposing war limits.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 — Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday called President Bush’s plan to send more troops to Iraq “a losing strategy” and proposed placing new limits on the White House’s conduct of the war.

Bryan and Michelle visit Iraq and come back with several images …. and thoughts on how we can win.

The question is, who do you believe? And why, or why not?

Personally, I’d believe Bryan and Michelle as they have a better history of telling the truth.

Michelle Malkin is back from Baghdad

Michelle Malkin and colleague, Bryan Preston, are back after embedding with U.S. Army troops at Forward Operating Base Justice in northern Baghdad. I’m glad to hear that Michelle plans an exclusive to the New York Post on the not so stellar reporting by the AP and today’s blog entry will be followed up with more of her adventures in Baghdad.

Terrorist believes in Women and Children First ~ Redux

Just wanted to point out that they seemed to target more women:

University bombing kills 60

A CAR bomb and a suicide bomber killed 60 people and wounded 110 more, including many students blown up as they waited for cars to take them home at the entrance to a university in Baghdad.

“The majority of those killed are female students who were on their way home,” an official at the historic al-Mustansiriya University’s media office said.

A police source said a car bomb exploded near the main gate of the university in an area where students wait for minibuses and cars to pick them up to go home. A suicide bomber then blew himself up near a second gate to the university as people fled the first explosion.

More hangings in Iraq

This time it was a little more gruesome as the head of Barzan Ibrahim, Saddam’s half brother and former intelligence chief, was actually severed during the hanging. The other man hanged was Awad Hamed al-Bandar, head of Iraq’s Revolutionary Court.

Sunni leader, Khalaf al-Olayan, is outraged claiming that a head cannot be severed during a hanging and is demanding to see any video to prove that the severing happened during the hanging. It is not known if there is an official Iraqi government video of the execution this time and it’s pretty certain that there were no amateur videos either.

Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh:

Those present signed documents pledging not to violate the rules or otherwise face legal penalties. All the people present abided by the government’s rule and there were no violations. No one shouted slogans or said anything that would taint the execution. None of those charged were insulted.

It is interesting that people are up in arms about a head being severed. My daughter is learning about irony in language arts. Would this be a good example?
